Music
in our world today has become a very powerful and influential tool, capable of
influencing our thoughts and actions. It is a true and proven fact that you look like what you like to look and you
become what you believe. No wonder it is said in the scriptures that a man
is a product of his thoughts. How true is this in relation to music especially
in Nigeria?
Many
times when I see a new trend in town, I imagine where it emanates from and I
can only trace about 80% of such trends to music artistes. Looking into the
Fashion world for instance, many young and old today, dress according to the
appearance of the secular Music artistes; talk of hairstyles, clothings and
even make-over. By this, I wonder, what
drives so many people about their music even when they are making no sense to
both the singer and the listeners?
Of
what benefit are the songs of Olamide or Wizkid to my soul? Phyno, Davido, Tiwa
Savage, M.I, Cynthia Morgan, P-Square, Tuface and all others, have their songs
helped me in becoming a better person even though some of these people do
different genres of music? The saddening part of it is the people of God who
also blindly follow these people and bring their songs to the church. Does the
fact that Dammy Krane sang “Amin” or
Korede Bello’s “Godwin”, give them
the right to the altar of God?
Name
your type of music and I’ll tell you there are many gospel artiste in Nigeria
and across the world who does the same kind of music. Have you listened to
songs from the likes of Michael Smith, Tye Tribbett, Donnie Mccluurkin, Hezekiah
Walker, Don Moen, Sonnie Badu, Nathaniel Bassey, Frank Edwards, Florocka, Sola
Allyson, Psalmos, Chris Morgan, Bola Aare, Kore, Nikky Laoye, Lara George,
Sammie Okposo etc? When you constantly listen to them with their different
genres of music, your soul is blessed and you wouldn’t find a reason to desire
soul dampening songs ever again. (I am sharing from experience)
Well,
I can’t just stop hearing Phyno, Wizkid and the likes, though I do not even recognize
them, I can only discipline myself to not listening to them. There is a
difference; to hear is just to perceive
through your sense of hearing while to
listen is to concentrate or give attention to a sound through your sense of
reasoning. As you decide on what you choose to listen to, also decide on what you celebrate, good success from God
or bad success from the devil?
Take
a careful look at yourself, ARE YOU NOT ALSO LIVING AND BECOMING LIKE THEM THOUGH YOU CLAIM YOU ARE NOT OF THE WORLD?
SHALOM
