WHY YOU HAVE TO STOP WRITING THIS WAY...

At a time, I don’t respond to anyone who initiates a chat with me using “sup”; I somehow get irritated and sometimes I speak my mind about it with whoever did so… then this happened…

Few days ago, I was to respond to an official mail at work and ignorantly, I had already typed the word “PLEASE” as “PLS” but thank God for the grammar correction app on my system, I immediately noticed the error and that prompted me to do my long intended write up on the topic. Nevertheless, just as it happened to me, it is happening with many others outside there, young and old, at work, at schools, in exams, interviews and so on, where you habitually use unofficial abbreviations where inappropriate.

And then I looked to see, searching through the internet, how many dignified and professional people write public notes and posts using these shorthand forms? Across the globe, in different sectors; political, business, religion, sports, movie, and so on, I couldn’t find one except one who does it occasionally for comedy act.

This unruly act is causing more harm than good to us in this generation. As it becomes a habit, it synchronizes to your mental system of operation and before you know it, you can no longer spell the simplest words again; whereas, you think this makes you intelligent and helps you maximize time, knowing not that it rather makes you less intelligent and unprofessional.

I have higher concern for those who write public posts on the internet with it. It doesn’t anyway help your communication, especially when you have different nationalities in your target audience who cannot understand your ‘local’ shorthand writings. What then is the essence of communication if in the end, there is no or little understanding. Even if you're only having local people in your connections, you should act international. Also, needful to stress that some standard professional organizations, go as far as checking social media profiles in recruitment and evaluation process to check for what is called Social Media Credibility. What becomes of you if all your public posts seem to be like the “handwriting on the wall” when they look into your profile? I guess the suitable answer to that would be “My Lord, only thou knowest”.

Anyways, these are just a few points I could write about from the various reasons why you have to stop the habit of public shorthand writings. A word is enough for the wise...to REPENT!
